It was a life experience spending the day with the Tiwi people, learning about their history, culture and their wonderful outlook on life. The tour guides were all so informative, intelligent and friendly. We spent most of our time with Fred (one of Tiwi’s best AFL legends… according to Fred!) who is a great communicator, telling us some of the sad, funny and proud stories of the Tiwi people. However the highlight of the day was meeting and talking with Bernard, who is an Tiwi icon. 82 years young, grandfather of 32, social reformer and ex-schoolteacher. His stories, vision for the Tiwi people and his sense of humour blew us away.

Great day with very knowledgeable guides Jason, Leon & Trevor. Great food & refreshing billy tea. Extra bonus was having elder Bernard speak, entertain and provide some “wisdom”.

Our trip to the Tiwi Islands was the highlight of our NT holiday. We learnt so much about Tiwi culture. The people were warm and friendly and had great senses of humour.
