About the activity provider

Tondaya was originally a money exchange business established in Fushimi in Edo era. Since the business was burned down during the Battle of Toba-Fushimi in 1868, they moved to the current location and started new business as Kimono wholesaler in Nishijin, Kyoto. This machiya house was built in 1885, and has remained in its original form for more than 140 years without renovation. The current head of the family is the 13th generation and opened their unique Machiya house to introduce visitors its uniqueness and traditions of Kyoto's cultural lifestyle. We hope visitors can enjoy beauty of seasonal changes at Machiya house and our Shitsurae (decorations) changes accordingly
