Cartagena: Totumo Mud Volcano Experience

1. Cartagena: Totumo Mud Volcano Experience

As the minivan leaves town, hear some curious facts about Cartagena history and some tips to ensure a better experience at the mud volcano. The trip to Santa Catalina, another beautiful Colombian city and the location of the volcano, lasts around 45 minutes. Upon arrival at the volcanic zone, be greeted by the owner of a small nearby restaurant. Then, prepare for a unique experience as you climb the 50 steps that surround the volcano; remember to wear old clothing as the mud can be rough on delicate materials. Immerse yourself in the volcanic mud, reaping the health benefits for your skin from the millions of minerals. Some people say afterward, you'll appear 10 years younger. Inside the volcano, you can float thanks to the high number of minerals present. There will be some locals around offering massages for an extra price of 2 USD. Outside of the volcano, pay to get your photo taken for another 2 USD. When the soaking is over, head to the lake for a shower. Before continuing back to the city, enjoy a typical snack in a rustic restaurant. Get dropped off at your hotel.

I really enjoyed this tour, it was a wonderful experience. We had private new car to transport us back and forth that was very comfortable. Our tour guide Paulina did a outstanding job the entire duration of the tour. Paulina spoke English very well which was A+++. She gave us insight about Columbia our entire road trip to the volcano. We were referred to an amazing steak house for Dinner by Paulina . It was pleasure having Paulina as a tour guide. She highly recommended.

Alejandro from Backpackers was a great guide and spoke English. Explained everything and made sure all our personal items were safe. The mud was very relaxing and rejuvenating. For a fee of less than $2 the locals took our phones and took pictures of the whole experience. They do offer baths and massages also for a small fee.

Our guide, Jesús, was a delight. He showed us a wonderful time and was hilarious. It was an amazing and unique experience.

Very nice guide. This man didn't speak all the time, but he told us just the useful information.

Es una experiencia imperdible cuando visites Cartagena.
