Full description

Discover the Tromsø Ice Domes on an overnight tour from Tromsø city. Explore the ice domes with a guide, spend the night in an ice hotel, and enjoy an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

Depart from the city center of Tromsø on a 90-minute scenic drive by bus to Camp Tamok and the Tromsø Ice Domes, located next to each other in the beautiful Tamok Valley.

After arriving, enjoy a guided tour through the Ice Domes. Marvel at the ice sculptures and snow carvings, learn about the construction process of the domes, and discover the importance of snow for all life in the Arctic. Finish your tour with a non-alcoholic ice shot at the ice bar.

Spend some free time exploring Camp Tamok and settling into your ice suite before your snowshoe hike. Before heading off, gear up with the provided warm winter clothing, boots, and snowshoe gear.

Hike out in the darkness with your guide and enjoy the night sky away from light pollution. On some nights, see the stunning Northern Lights before hiking to the nature camp. Relax by a campfire with your guide before heading to a warm facility where you can enjoy a 3-course dinner.

After dinner, hike back to the hotel and enjoy a magical night in your ice suite. In the morning, enjoy a traditional Norwegian breakfast before your dogsledding tour. Before heading out, meet your guide for safety instructions and a practical demonstration on how to steer your own sled.

Two people will share one sled and one dog team. One is the “musher” (driver), while the other can sit back and enjoy the ride. If your group includes children, each child must ride with one adult. Midway through your 1.5-hour adventure, switch places, so everyone can enjoy driving the sled.

After your sledding adventure, relax with a hot meal around an open fire in a reindeer herder’s tent before boarding the bus to return to Tromsø city center.

The experience was generally fabulous. The actual ice dome is incredible, and we really enjoyed the snow shoeing. The staff were really fun and friendly, the dinner that was prepared over an open fire was the best meal we'd had in ages. We weren't able to do the dog sledding nor stay for lunch as the weather was too warm, but the company did give us a partial refund without having to ask. The only reason for the 4* and not 5* is because the dinner timings went so awry I feel we couldn't properly appreciate our night in the dome. (Basically, although arriving at 6:30pm, we didn't sit down to have dinner until gone 11pm, which meant we weren't able to get to bed until past midnight. Some folks had been up until 2am the previous night chasing the lights, so were properly tired. This could have been easily avoided by better time management on the part of the hosts - and would have meant we could have spent a few minutes enjoying our room instead of collapsing in it!)

Smooth pickup and drop off at the camp. There we were met by our guide, Julius, in the little chalet next to the ice domes. We had some introductions and were provided with specialised warm clothing for super low temperatures. Then we went snow shoeing into the woods. Julius cooked, first reindeer meat stew, then salmon, and we ate under some spectacular Northern Lights. Afterwards back to the chalet for hot drinks and snacks. Then a tour of the ice domes/hotel, the art and unique rooms and then off to bed in the chosen room. After a good breakfast the next day, we met Sami guides to learn about their way of life and go reindeer sledding. Then lunch and finally back to Tromso. Everything went smoothly. Facilities and equipment were top quality. All staff and guides were friendly and knowledgeable and loved their work. Julius made our experience particularly: super interesting, knowledgeable and chill guy and an excellent cook. The whole thing was a fantastic experience.

Our trip to the Tromso Ice Domes Overnight stay was amazing. It was very well organised given the 'tricky' weather they had to deal with during our trip. Mattius (sorry for the spelling), was fab, he was our guide during our stay. He did an amazing job cooking our evening dinner in a 'snow' fire pit. The food was amazing. Well worth a visit during your stay in Tromso.
