Full description

See the Doge's Palace and St. Mark's Basilica, two of the most iconic sites in Venice, on a guided tour.

For centuries, the destiny of the Most Serene Republic was decided in the majestic halls of the Doge’s Palace. Walk through the magnificent halls and marvel at the well-conserved priceless treasures, art masterpieces, and frescos.

Visit the prison, passing over the celebrated Bridge of Sighs, so called because prisoners often sighed while looking at their beloved lagoon and freedom for the last time before reaching their cells.

Among the famous guests of the Doge’s Palace prisons was Giacomo Casanova, the celebrated seducer and adventurer who managed to escape from the prison in 1756.

Next, head to St. Mark’s Basilica, one of the world’s most stunning churches. As the name suggests, this cathedral is bound tightly to Venice’s patron, St. Mark, and the saint's remains are in fact here.

Admire the breathtaking golden mosaics covering the high walls, and see the Pala d’Oro, an altarpiece made from hundreds of pieces of enamel on a golden leaf.

The palace and basilica are gorgeous and well worth exploring. And the tour operators, Gray Line Venice, were very helpful when our train was late and we were 5 minutes late for the tour. They quickly gave us the audio equipment and personally rushed along beside us to guide us to our tour group before they went inside the palace. They helped turn a potentially disappointing experience into a pleasant and memorable one instead, and we were very relieved and grateful. The guide was also quite friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Though the tour is expensive, I would certainly recommend this company!

Loved the energy and enthusiasm from our guide! She was wonderful with our kids even though our youngest struggled listening to Mom and Dad a few times(hard in the afternoon) Our 11yr old was engaged and I know he learned a lot and enjoyed the experience. My only negative is we went 30/45minutes past our tour time which normally would be a dream but with small children they were done. I think we could have done this one alone as a family but still a fantastic opportunity.

Nice places to visit and learn about the history of Venice. Our guide was monotonous and took more than 2 hours, and when we excused ourselves because we had another tour, she gave us a "look." But this doesn't undermine the prettiness of the place and the necessity to see it. There's another tour that we weren't aware of, which is called the secrets of the Doge's palace (or something like that), where they show you secret pathways inside the palace and tell stories about Casanova and how he escaped (which I thought were gonna be told in this tour but they weren't). Unfortunately, we had no time to do it, and had I known in advance, maybe I would've preferred that tour. Btw it's not on GetYourGuide (as of the time I'm writing this review).
