Full description
Visit the Spanish Riding School of Vienna and observe the horses during their training. In the magnificent setting of the baroque Winter Riding Academy, the training offers an insight into the years of training of the Lipizzaners and their riders. The morning exercise of the horses is accompanied by classical Viennese music. The Training includes relaxation exercises, refining and perfecting movement and strengthening certain muscles. The famous school jumps levade, courbette and capriole, which are shown as part of the performances by the Spanish Riding School, are not practiced on a daily basis and can only sometimes be seen during the morning exercise. The white Lipizzaner stallions are put through their paces by their riders almost every day. The primary objective of the morning exercise is to maintain the horses’ athleticism and health, as well as to build up various muscle groups that are necessary for performing the exercises of the haute école.

This was on my "bucket list" to do, and it was well worth the visit, beautiful horses, and the training session is a great way to see how much discipline is required from both horse and rider. Was disappointed our behind the scenes tour was cancelled but the training session didn't disappoint! Fantastic experience, thoroughly enjoyed every second Carolyn, UK

We visited the Spanish Riding school morning exercise in the first week in March. It was busier than I’d have imagined for that time of year. Exchanging my online ticket went very smoothly. The staff were very polite and helpful. Watching the horses and riders train was an amazing experience. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. You weren’t allowed to take videos/photos and there were a few who were told off for doing so. The horses move so elegantly. There’s a commentator who explains the history of the horses and riders ect. It’s worth the money to watch.

If you bought tickets online...you can bypass the long line that clogs the entry...but you still have to exchange the online voucher for a ticket once you squeeze by the people in the doorway and we’re able to enter the ticket office. The ticket will say to stay for 20 minutes..as they change every 20-30 minutes...we stayed 1.5 hours and were impressed how different horses performed quite different exercises...so, it pays to stay longer
