Full description

Travel back in time and witness the events that made Vienna the cosmopolitan city it is today. Enjoy six scenes with breathtaking virtual reality technology that let you relive the past on a unique two-hour tour with an audioguide. Take part in a procession on White Sunday in 1483, one of the few occasions when the ornaments were brought out and shown to the public. Take cover as the Ottoman Empire carries out another siege during the second siege in 1683. Experience the darkness during the plague that killed half of Europe and learn about Augustin, a singer who showed that Vienna could survive such terrible times with humor and music. On a sunny day, walk around the Hofburg and see Empress Sisi and Emperor Franz Joseph II on a hunting trip. Luckily, you're standing very close to the road, so don't forget to wink. At the Opera you will experience Vienna in the golden 20s and see how people prepare for an opera performance. In the last scene at St. Stephens square see the cathedral burn in the last month of the terrible Second World War and witness the Soviet army driving the last German soldiers out.

Interesting information about various historical moments in the city, VR experience very exciting and great for the first time, guided tour very well with a little surprise in between :-). Due to the focus on the audio guide, less interaction with other participants or staff than with other tours.

This was a good walking tour. The guide fully explained how to use to the VR equipment and audio headphones and was polite, professional, and helpful. Most of the tour consisted of walking through the city streets and listening to an audio presentation, which was a decent overview of the city. At a few points, we stopped and put on our VR headsets, whereupon we saw 3-D, VR scenes from the past: a religious procession past the gothic cathedral (middle ages), the Ottoman bombardment of the city (1693), Russian tanks moving into Stefans Platz (WWII), a dystopian scene during the plague (16th century), Franz Joseph/Empress Sisi going for a carriage ride (late 1800s), and a street scene around the Opera House (1920s). These scenes were comprehensive, interesting and I did really feel like I was in another world. However, I would characterize the VR images as "1.0"--somewhat rough, slightly blurry...indistinct faces. An update to VR 3.0 or 4.0 might be in order. Still, I recommend the tour.
