Amalfi Coast Private Tour

3. Amalfi Coast Private Tour

Positano - The busy central Piazza dei Mulini is connected to a narrow downhill path and some occasional flights of steps that lead to the seafront. At Piazza dei Mulini, you must leave the car as all streets leading to the waterfront are for pedestrians only. The only way to reach restaurants situated on the beach, that serve fresh daily fish, is to go on foot. These streets also lead to the cathedral, ceramic shops, fruit vendors, and apparel retail shops. Positano is alive at night as well, with exotic nightclubs such as Music on the Rocks and various bars and cafes that remain open until the sun comes up. There is a short walk uphill to return to the car, ascending the mountain, returning to the main coastal road that leads to Amalfi. Amalfi - This coastal town is situated on a seafront port and a long stretch of pebbled beach. In front of the port of Amalfi is the only bus station along the coast. Behind this square lies the main shopping street of Amalfi, that ends at the furthest and highest point of the town. Along the pedestrian street are various bars and cafes, not to mention the many shops selling limoncello, casual apparel, swimwear, gifts, basic groceries, and of course, ceramics. However, if one would like to see more than just shops, Amalfi has some interesting sights to explore such as: a spectacular cathedral along the coast, and a paper factory and its museum. There are also some highly recommended local restaurants, which your driver can suggest. Ravello - The road to Ravello is a slow uphill drive where you will pass several wineries and olive factories. Ravello is a rural village unspoiled by tourism, perched on top of a mountain cliff situated above Amalfi and Minori. It is famous for its breathtaking views and ancient monuments best exemplified by the gardens of Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo. In high season, these gardens are rich in sweet scents of blooming flowers and the perfume of lemons. There are also many classical concerts held in the gardens of Villa Rufolo, located just off the main square of Ravello; tickets cost approximately 20 Euros each. Apart from the main cathedral and the history museum constructed in the basement of the cathedral, there are many other churches to visit near the town square. Along the narrow arches of Via Roma, there are a few small boutiques, and some traditional local restaurants with unique and exceptional cuisine.

Villa Cimbrone and Pompeii Private Tour from Rome

6. Villa Cimbrone and Pompeii Private Tour from Rome

The Villa Cimbrone complex consists of a historic building built on a rocky promontory overlooking the Amalfi Coast, and a huge park of about six hectares full of statues, fountains and various antiques. The visit to the gardens of Villa Cimbrone begins with the Cloister, enriched by sacred and profane decorative elements, including the seven deadly sins and the nine Norman warriors. Once you pass the Crypt, you enter the suggestive Viale dell'Immenso, full of ancient trees, flowers and exotic plants, eighteenth-century earthenware pots and bronze statues depicting Greek warriors. The avenue opens the way to the magnificent Infinity Terrace, also known as Porta del Sole, which shows incomparable scenery on the Gulf of Salerno, the nearby coastal towns and the Cilento mountains. Then, you will reach the Temple of Bacco, clearly inspired by classical themes and supported by eight Doric style columns. You'll see the Cave of Eve and the bronze statue of David, reachable after climbing on a steep staircase in the middle of the grove, among rare wild orchids. Further on there is the Roses Terrace and the Tea Room, surrounded by beautiful exotic flowers. In the afternoon you will be guided to the ancient town of Pompeii, which is known throughout the world for the tragedy that befell it in 79 AD, when the rich Roman city was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. This immense tragedy has, however, allowed us to find an intact historical testimony, a cross-section of common life in the greatest empire of antiquity, unchanged after almost two thousand years. The excavations allow you to leap through time, and total immersion in a vanished world of which our Western civilization bears the "DNA". The excavations allow us to visit the good living room of the temples, the public buildings, the rich patrician villas, but also to stroll among the ancient shops, the popular houses, the "taverns" where the common citizen unraveled his life. Particularly touching is the sight of plaster casts, a "snapshot" of the agony to which the ancient Pompeians were subjected by the hot gas coming from Vesuvius.

What people are saying about Villa Cimbrone

It was a wonderful tour with Francesco. Booking a day tour is highly recommended especially if you have limited time in Italy and you want to see the best spots. Very convenient and comfortable with the private car in touring around Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello. You would be touring for an hour for each town, excluding some random stops for picture taking and the lunch along the way. The restaurant for lunch in Praiano has nice sea view with delicious seafoods and Italian food. The driver, Francesco, also shares some facts and trivias about Italy. He also gave recomendations where to go when you start to do your own tour. Definitely a memorable one.

Fantastic Amalfi Coast Tour

Tour was great! Paulo, our guide, was so kind, knowledgeable, and punctual. We had impression that no one could be better than him. The tour course was well scheduled and managed from Ravello to Naples stopping at Il Postino, Amalfi (of course!), and Sorrento. The only cons was the lunch place. It was pricy compared to the food quality and overall service.
