From Taormina: Lipari and Vulcano Mini Cruise Aeolian Tour

1. From Taormina: Lipari and Vulcano Mini Cruise Aeolian Tour

The Aeolian Islands are a fascinating volcanic archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea north of Sicily. They are named after Aeolus, the demigod of the winds.  Lipari is the biggest, most populated Aeolian Island and has historically been the most significant. Lipari offers a grand archaeological museum housed in the buildings around the Duomo. Also impressive are the white shiny pumice quarries, which, overlooking the sea, give the water an amazing turquoise hue. Vulcano, which gives its name to all volcanoes, is particularly famous for its sulfurous mud baths and its smoking main crater. A man named Stevenson lived on Vulcano until the last major eruption in 1888. He never returned although his villa is still visible and intact. The tour departs from Taormina by bus to Milazzo harbour on the North coast of Sicily then continues by private boat to Lipari. In Lipari there is plenty of time to visit the old town center, to see the interesting archaeological park or simply shop for souvenirs. Guests then transfer by boat to the island of Vulcano for a second stop. Here there is the possibility to swim in the warm sulphureous seawater, have a mud bath, or enjoy the beach and have a delicious lunch (optional). On the way back, the tour follows the coastline to see the Faraglioni Rocks, the Horse Cave and the Mermaid's Rock.

Aeolian Islands: Active Volcano Tour

5. Aeolian Islands: Active Volcano Tour

Experience a full-day tour of the Aeolian Islands, which form one of the most active geological structures in the Mediterranean area. The Archipelago of the Aeolian Islands consists of seven exquisite islands off the coast of Sicily - Lipari, Panarea, Vulcano, Stromboli, Salina, Alicudi, and Filicudi - in addition to smaller islets and giant boulders. They all emerge from an uncontaminated sea, created by still-active volcanoes (Stromboli and Vulcano), and blessed by a savage beauty. The Islands, the destination for tens of thousands of tourists annually, are part of the Province of Messina. Departing from Milazzo, sail to Vulcano and stop for 4 hours on the white and black beaches and climb the crater of Vulcano. Then depart from Vulcano to Panarea, the smallest of the islands. Soak up the beautiful atmosphere of the island as you stroll around the narrow streets of its historic center. Afterward, pay a visit to the prehistoric village of Capo Milazzese, where you can learn more about Panarea's ancient origins. Visiting Cala Junco Bay is a must - a spectacular beach shaped like an amphitheater ideal for underwater swimming. Finally, relax on the sandy beach of Cala degli Zimmari before continuing your journey. Sail through the picturesque inlets which form a micro-archipelago between Lipari and the island of Stromboli, your next stop. Visit Saint Vincent’s Square and the house in which Rossellini and Ingrid Bergman lived during the shooting of the film "Stromboli terra di Dio" (Stromboli land of God). As the sun sets over the island, enjoy panoramic views of the port and volcanoes from the main square. Watch as the fire of the eruptions and the dark sky clash with each other providing ever-changing colorful creations in the Sciara del Fuoco.

This was a wonderful trip. We went on August 5, leaving early morning from Taormina. The tour guide on the bus was excellent. She also made some of the announcements on the boat. She spoke English, German and Italian and took good care of us. The islands are beautiful and the boat tour around Vulcano and Lipari before disembarking was especially amazing. We took the 10 Euro bus/taxi tours around both islands and got to see some beautiful places. The drive around Lipari even allowed for a brief, 20 minute swim at a beach on the north of the island. Both of the bus/taxi excursions around the islands were in Italian, and we do not understand the language, but it was still worthwhile for us. I highly recommend this experience.

Interesting tour, very well organised. Sebastiano is an amazing guide, always prepared for all kind of tourists, he adapted the schedule regarding our profile of interest and phisical skills and offered us an excellent afternoon for exploring the Mount Etna, for knowing a lot of new info about vulcanologic phenomena, to view a lor of spectacular sites and to explore a lava tube also. In the final part we had have the opportunity to admire the sunset siting on one of the lateral vulcanic crater, a perfect final of the day. So we are happy to conclude: perfect tour on Etna, not phisical demanding, perfect guide, a very helpful and friendly service!

Super experience, really nice to be able to see the islands from the boat, Lipari with not much to visit but very nice and great for buying souvenirs, really top volcano if you are looking for a swim in clean and beautiful waters, the beach with sand black is easy and quick to reach once you land on the island, crystal clear water and perfect temperature, the beach with warm water is less exciting .. cloudy and not very clean water, however particular the fact of bathing in really hot water .

Superb excursion! A moment out of time. We followed the program with the cave, the venere pool, a stop for swimming and a disembarkation on the island of Vulcano. We also had the choice of staying two or four hours on the island. The crew were very friendly, a great atmosphere on the boat. Well worth the price. We highly recommend!

Very beautiful, totally relaxed boat tour. Nice people, friendly staff. We’ve got the essential information about the island. Nothing more (no music, no advertising..), what we appreciated a lot! Thank you.
