Gansbaai: Shark Dive & Whale Watching Combo Boat Trip

6. Gansbaai: Shark Dive & Whale Watching Combo Boat Trip

Take advantage of a combo package that features 2 incredible activities which can be split over 2 days if you'd prefer.  Shark Dive Begin the adventure with the shark cage dive which takes place off the coast of Dyer Island, roughly 15 minutes by boat from Kleinbaai Harbour. Discover how this island is home to a colony of over 50 000 Cape Fur seals – the great white shark's favorite food and primary source of nutrition. Arrive at the channel of the ocean which runs between Dyer Island and the neighboring Geyser Rock. This area is so frequented by great white sharks that it has been dubbed 'Shark Alley'. Anchor up here for an up-close encounter with great whites. As the cage is dropped at the diving site, get kitted up with diving gear. Take consecutive turns in the 8-man floating cage to experience thrilling underwater views of this majestic predator. When not in the cage, enjoy sightings of the sharks and other sea life from the viewing deck of the boat. Gansbaai is one of the only places in the world where these rare creatures congregate close enough to the coastline to offer you the best opportunity for potential sightings. That being said, please bear in mind that seeing a great white shark is a privilege, not a guarantee. Whale Watching Trip The whale watching trips take place from June to December however, should the whales change their migration schedule (arrive early and leave later) the schedule will be adjusted accordingly. Generally the trip last 2 hours, but can be longer depending on how quickly you find the whales. Climb aboard a boat which launches twice daily at 10 AM and 1 PM. During the main season (August-October) an extra morning trip is available at 7 AM. From September on wards, an extra afternoon tri runs at either 3:30 PM or if a good sunset is forecasted, at 5 PM. The sunset trip is a truly magnificent experience as it provides the opportunity to watch the whales bask in the shallow waters with the Walker Bay sunset behind.

I went with my parents, and we had a fantastic trip. My mum didn’t dive but she enjoyed the views of the sharks from the upper deck regardless. We went in Feb, and saw bronzer sharks and there were 10, and they came so close to the cage! Staff for super helpful and friendly. You get a pre trip light bfast, Followed by a safety briefing, followed my a short 2-5 min walk to the harbour and then the trips lasts 2-2.5 hours. I got about 15 mins time in the cage, this may vary depending on group size and the level of shark encounter you get. Great boat- it has two toilets, it does get really wavy and jumpy so may be an idea to take an anti sickness tablet prior if you are prone to getting nausea. Well organised and clean wetsuits and shoes for us all, they took down our sizes at the beginning and later were given to us in our own bags when ready to dive. We will get free photos uploaded on their website, but there is a charge for 200 rand for videos/footage soup nd bread provided after

This is a must do activity when in Cape Town. The skippers and marine biologists on board are fabulous! We were a huge group as the trips had been canceled for a few days due to a storm but none the less everyone got a chance in the cage for a good amount of time and saw sharks closer than ever. Visa it isn’t the best under water but the sharks do come quiet close to the cage so you will see them. Loads of good videos and pics can be take. On board as well. The drive from Cape Town CBD is very long, about 2 -2 1/2 hours but the car is comfortable, has AC and Wi-Fi. While going we stopped for 10 mins at a coffee shop. Make sure you stop at the suveniour Shop right on the beach we’re you will board the board. She has amazing stuff compared to the shop at the shark center.

This is a well organised day out, the people are very friendly and helpful, . The guide really knows her stuff and her love of the sharks is infectious. The boat was clean, and as you would expect set up well for the the guests.. The cage diving itself was amazing, we saw up to 7 sharks at any one time, and they were there for to whole dive time. And most important, it felt completely safe. A real wildlife experience/close encounter not to be missed, and all done in a way that teaches us that all marine life needs our help.

Great experience and great team! I would definitely do again and recommend.

Really great experience! Can you always recommend!
