Reykjavik: Golden Circle and Hvammsvik Hot Springs Tour

4. Reykjavik: Golden Circle and Hvammsvik Hot Springs Tour

After pick-up we’ll straight out of the city. In a short while, we will pass Hellisheiðavirkjun – the 8th largest geothermal power station in the world and the largest one in Iceland. Soon after we will reach Þingvellir – the national park where the parliament was established in 930 AD. We’ll let you see for yourself but soaking in the history and walking between the North American to the European tectonic plates this place will offer you nothing but spectacular views. Then it’s time to hit the road again and our next stop is the Geyser. Now, Geyser has been inactive for some time but Strokkur (right next to it) erupts every 5-8 minutes. Here, it’s important to not stand too close to the water – and have your camera ready. We continue our journey and the next stop is the Golden Waterfall. Located in the canyon of Hvítá, the waterfall plummets down into a 32-meter deep crevice. From the parking area, it's also possible to walk all the way down to the falls. It’s about a 10-minute walk but please be aware the walkway might be closed off in certain weather conditions. After we’ve witnessed all the natural phenomenon’s the golden circle offers, we’re continuing our journey and the next stop is lunch. Friðheimar Tomato Farm is a unique food experience. It has ample supplies of geothermal water that provides heat to the greenhouses where they grow tomatoes. We will walk around the greenhouse and taste their famous tomato soup. You will have a chance to enjoy a delicious main course and dessert (or drink if you prefer) all included in the tour price. We highly recommend to try their famous cheesecake! Stuffed and satisfied hopefully, we’ll go back to the bus and continue our journey. The last stop – but certainly not least – is the Hvammsvik Hot Springs, the most unique baths in Iceland. Situated along the shoreline, it offers eight natural hot springs of varying temperatures – mixing geothermal water with seawater from the ocean. It's the best location to enjoy a drink (first drink is included) and relax after a adventures day. Since they are situated on the Atlantic Ocean, the water level changes depending on the time of day. That is why it’s called the ever-changing experience. Don’t miss out on that!

What people are saying about Western Region, Iceland

I really didn’t think I’d see much on this tour but it wasn’t long at all until we saw a humpback whale! it even gave us a little show by jumping out of the water which the tour guide says rarely happens at this time of year. She was also brilliant and now I can cross something else off my bucket list. Very happy :)

We were lucky we had calm seas and managed to see a juvenile humpback whale, which has been a regular in the area since August, as told to us by our guide. The guide was great and took the time to answer any questions. The boat was warm inside and served a good selection of drinks.

If you go out whale watching in Reykjavik, definitely go with the Sea Trips 'Sailor' team. Some boats turned back due to cold and visibility but fortunately our ship didn't. Thanks to our spotter 'Lucky' we got to see the whale many times. Magnificent, I'd go again

Fantastic tour and amazing guide and crew. One very emotional journey meeting the gorgeous solitary humpback whale. Thank you!

Everything was super, the whale saw this is the most important thing
