Full description
Explore the ancient city of York on a thoroughly modern bike with an entertaining and knowledgeable guide. This tour will take you off the beaten track to fascinating historic places you won’t see on a typical bus or walking tour. You will travel at a safe and leisurely pace, staying on cycle paths and designated lanes for most of the ride. York has always been a magnet for visitors. There were the Romans, of course, who first settled in the area in AD 71. In the 9th century, the Vikings dropped in for an eventful 200-year stay. The year 1068 saw the arrival of the besieging forces of William the Conqueror, and in the 17th century, York was a hotspot in the English Civil War.   Although today’s residents much more fun to be around, those of the past have all left their marks and their stories. Although factual, the cycle tours are designed as a good-humored look at the fascinating and often grisly past of York. The tours take about 2 hours, and our average traveling speed is 900 years an hour.

This was one of the best tours I have ever been on in terms of lively information, excellent organisation and comfort. It has been brilliantly planned so you don’t even notice how far you’ve travelled - it felt so engrossing abs effortless. Cecil was a warm and wise guide who made us feel looked after and secure. We saw parts of York we would never have seen abs got an insight into history and local Community. We had two teenagers who were also riveted and had fun. Highly, highly recommended !!

Cecil greeted us by name. The bike was comfortable and of good quality. I was surprised at how safe I felt throughout the entire tour, even riding along some of the busier stretches of the city. Cecil was full of knowledge and even treated us to some local chocolate. We were really glad went on this tour instead of a walking tour, as we were able to see so much more, and we got a real feel for the community, not just the history.

Absolutely loved this tour! It helped the weather was beautiful. I was 18 weeks pregnant at the time and felt very safe and looked after; the pace was steady, and it was great to see parts of York we wouldn't have otherwise seen. Thank you for a wonderful way to start the day :)
