Snaefellsnes Peninsula: Natural Park Guided Day Tour

1. Snaefellsnes Peninsula: Natural Park Guided Day Tour

Visit Mini Iceland, or the Snaefellsnes Peninsula on this guided day tour. See everything Iceland has to offer in one trip from lava fields, waterfalls, and folklore, to seals, volcanic craters, and mountains. Learn the local legends and see a local seal colony up close and personal. Begin your trip in the local town of Borgarnes. Grab some snacks before heading to the peninsula and try to catch a peak of the ice-capped Snaefellsjokull stratovolcano. Arrive at the Berserkjahraun lava field, and learn the origin of its name. Picture next, Kirkjufell, famously known for its role on the "Game of Thrones" television show, and for being the most-photographed mountain in the entire country. Visit the neighboring waterfall, and be swept away by the magic. Climb the staircase to the top of Saxholl, a 100 meter high volcanic crater. Reach the top and be rewarded by the stunning views of this 3000 year old feat of nature. Learn local legends, and the history of the strong Icelandic ancestry. Venture into the uninhabited settlement of Djupalonssandur, and test your strength like local men used to on the beach. Head to the fishing village of Arnarstapi and witness the beautifully eroded cliffs and the sculpture of Barour Snaefellsas. Discover a deeper understanding of Icelandic history at Budakirkja, or the "Black Church." View historical artifacts from the 19th century, all thanks to a woman named Steinunn. Find yourself at last at the enchanting golden-colored beach of Ytri-Tunga. Witness a huge seal colony, laying on the rocks and enjoying the sun. Find the exact place they love to relax, and try not to disturb their nap.

Definitely worth the visit and a great variety of things to see, from hidden waterfalls, craters and stunning cliffs and beaches. Also the value for money was really good and we enjoyed traveling with a small group for people. Special thanks to our guide Chris for the advice that we could catch the northern lights, and for his knowledge and sense of humour that really enhanced the experience!

I quite liked the tour. We had quite a few spots on the tour in different locatioms so we saw quite a bit. Julien was our tour guide and he was very good- he stopped for us to take a couple pics of horses too. My advice will be to take loads of snacks as lunch break is around 3pm. Also, North Iceland is say colder than Reykjavik so gloves and hats (even in May weather).

The weather was bad, with a real snow storm, but thanks to the excellent professionalism, including the quiet and safe driving of the small van, and the availability of our guide, we still managed to make our tour. The peninsula deserves a lot and certainly has extraordinary landscapes, among the most beautiful of those seen.

Your beautiful country gave us a taste of how unpredictable it can be .We had glorious sunshine in the morning, and experienced heavy snow ,driven by strong winds ,rain and hail before the day was out .Despite all this I had one of the best trips of my life .Our guide was wonderful and made sure everyone was kept safe .

Matey or Matt was our guide! He was very informative and made the day very enjoyable! The tour was well spaced and we had enough time for photos and sightseeing on our own! Thank you :)
