Berlin: David Bowie History Tour

1. Berlin: David Bowie History Tour

When David Bowie moved to Berlin in 1976, he found an island of Cold War angst. This 3-hour tour takes you back to the decadent 1970s in the city that inspired Bowie’s classic Berlin albums Low, Heroes, and Lodger. Starting at the decadent heart of Cold War West Berlin, at Zoo Station, you’ll follow the artist’s trail to the flat he shared with Iggy Pop, to the clubs where they partied, and to the legendary Hansa recording studios, where Bowie’s music reached its creative peak in Berlin. Your tour takes in a variety of sites, including Bahnhof Zoo, the former Dschungel Club, KaDeWe, Potsdamer Platz, Hansa Studios, the Berlin Wall, Topographie of Terror, Bowie’s former home, and the Neues Ufer Café.

This tour was a definite highlight of our Berlin trip. Current day Berlin is obviously wonderful, but you can't walk the streets of this city without reminiscing about the heady days of the '70s and '80s, and of course, the role that Bowie played in defining this important era. Bringing it to life, in a thoughtful, engaging, well-planned and researched manner, our guide Lee, was a wealth of information, expert on the important context of the cold war period, and full of personality - delivering a memorable experience I highly recommend to anyone with a curiosity and/or interest in David Bowie's imprint on Berlin.

This was an exceptional tour - Dan was a superb guide and, as well as the David Bowie material, he also included other, relevant, parts of Berlin history. I am a fan of author Christopher Isherwood and Dan went out of his way to show us the apartment where Isherwood lived with its plaque - this was very kind of him and much appreciated. The Bowie information was comprehensive and Dan made it come alive. I cannot recommend this tour enough - you won’t be disappointed.

Superb tour , Dan's knowledge of David Bowie and Berlin history is mind blowing, his personal insights into David Bowie's music is inspiring, his own love of Berlin which he has made his home makes the tour more special. I would highly recommend, a must for all Bowie fans and history lovers.

Amazing experience. Our guide Lee showed not just places where Bowie had lived or had ate, but places which had influenced to Bowie's trilogy from Berlin . Definitely recommend this tour. Big thank you to our guide - Lee Evans.
